Quick Bio: Raised middle class, divorce left KB and his mother in a poor economic situation, “I went from the suburbs to the hood in one day,” he recalls. Having been raised in Southern Illinois on a military base, drug dealers and criminals were a stark contrast to the safe haven he had become accustomed to. Fear of death and the unknown gripped his teenage years, leading him to depression and thoughts of suicide. On the other hand, KB also excelled in high school and was offered the opportunity to be a part of a program where juniors could become full-time college students. After foregoing varsity basketball to join the program, KB soon realized that solely excelling in school wouldn’t bring fulfillment. “I was losing the will to live; life was becoming meaningless, and I was becoming progressively more empty,” and his declining academic performance reflected this attitude. But that would soon change. While in school, a classmate introduced him to Christian rap, and although he already self-identified as a believer, after listening to a song on which an artist delivered the Gospel, KB wholeheartedly trusted and believed in Jesus. In his regeneration, the Gospel exposed the underlying issue of fear and uncertainty that plagued him as a teenager. Emptiness, depression, and meaninglessness were now being exchanged for grace, rest and forgiveness.Currently residing in Tampa, KB is enjoying life with his new wife and occasionally preaches at Crossover Community Church. Through his music, he hopes to communicate that God is the absolute canon of all things good, true and beautiful. “I want people to realize God and His centrality. It is not us putting Him at the center, He is already there. We must put ourselves onto that reality.”

Hey hows it going everyone? Man 2011 has been a big year for me, come January, will be the end of my first year following Christ, and man what a journey I have been on. I came from an R&B foundation and some Rap, but man..... nothing beat me and my R&B. Want to thank my brothas D-Will, Vic, and AB for getting me acquainted with some good clean Christian Rap, Im gonna try and shake up your Spirits with some of these Ballads on my list. This list I have is from artists I have listened to over the course of the year that have a sound that moves my spirit, almost every time I hear them. So take a seat, turn up your speakers and let your Spirit free.

First on the list is Daniel Johnson. This guy has a very laid back CD " You Make Me" and the whole CD can be played in the back ground and create a real chill atmosphere for you and God to relax and build a relationship in. The Song that got me the most was For My Good take a listen

The next 3 were hard to rate, I liked each equally, but can't have any ties.

Micah Stampley, I don't like him just because Mycah is my middle name, but he has an anointed voice, and that shows in his CD "One Voice" the song I chose for you guys is Search For You, and all I can say is God "We Need Your Rain..............". Listen and enjoy

Kierra "KiKi" Sheard..... Man I thought she had me at Oh Lord (check that out too), but her latest CD "Free"...... Man that has me too. She has such a great voice and the notes she hits in her single Free along with the theme of being free of all burdens through God and that he allows for your soul to be awakened just by believing in him... just take a listen to this Soul Shaking song, I don't usually listen to female singers, but for her and our next artist, Ill make an exception.

at # 2 I had to put April Nevels, I haven't heard her whole CD, but her 2nd single Jesus You Are........ She has such Power in her voice on this song, its ridiculous. She was going through some stuff at the time of recording this single, and you can really feel her spirit crying out to Jesus, her "only refuge". Take a minute and call out to Jesus, Let him grab hold and he wont let you go.

At # 1 for me this year, Isaac Carree had to have the one CD I played the most, his tracks all hit home with me, the CD "UnCommon Me" opens up with an off the chain Piano score that just sets the atmosphere for me. It follows up with the song Chances and it just highlights how even though we may fall and "do things that wont bring" us closer to God, with "no reason or excuse for most of them so why do them"........ Even still God continues to show his mercy and give us chances. As a newly saved christian, this song helped me to let go of the past and move on to my blessings, If God can forgive me, than what business do I have feeling sorry for myself. Listen to this song and close out my countdown.

Christian Hip-Hop Artists In 2011!!

This year has been a remarkable year in terms of Christian Hip-Hop! From the excellence of production, to the improvement of quality lyrics, and actual ministry outside the booth. We've seen some of our brothers and sisters that took a fall have nice bounce backs in their ministries, and younger artists take the bar set before them raise it even higher. I eagerly await whats going to be handed to us in 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are my Top 5 Artists That Stood Out in 2011!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Lecrae

This has been a very big year for Lecrae not just in terms of album sales (which dominated at time on itunes), but also the advancement of ministry. His appearance on the 2011 BET Hip-Hop awards marked a first for Christian Hip-Hop. Now with a running commercial for IAMSECOND, he continues to extend the reach of his ministry and all those affiliated with Christian Hip-Hop.

2. Andy Mineo

I liken his rise in Christian to that of a Drake in secular rap, not b/c they sound the same, but b/c he has introduced a new sound to the genre, and is quickly changing approach for every emcee. His mixtape "Formerly Known" is making major noise in every music circle. Previously known as C-Lite, and for features on albums of other artists like Shai Linne, Lecrae, and Pro, his transition to individual artistry is beyond amazing.

3. Canon

Much like that of Andy Mineo, Canon has uprooted what we have come to know as Christian Hip-Hop and has begun to introduce a new avenue of artistry and delivery to this industry. For some he is too brash and borders on that line of "I don't know" but his impact on this generation cannot be ignored. From his features on albums from Lecrae, Brothatone, Pro to name a few to his monster mixtape "Blind World" (which has gained notary recognition in many secular arenas) Canon has proved that his artistry is deserving of this ranking.

4. Pro

I'm probably going to get slammed for having him this low, but Pro has had a very busy year. From the release of his cd "Dying to Live" (which reaked havoc on itunes), his mixtape

PSA Vol2, and the launching of his new record label Reflection Music Group. Pro continues to make quantum leaps as an artist, even paving the way for artist like Canon, Brothatone, and my favorite Chad Jones aka Conviction.

5. The Breax

Where do I begin w/ this group. They dropped 3 mixtapes!!!! that's right 3!!!!! and two albums, the first "Parting Gift" and the second "Never Arrive". The continue to show that ministry has no boundaries, and that artistry are as individual as gifts and callings. This group not only displays a knack for addressing topics and thoughts that ppl encounter on a daily basis, but in a very candid way. So that alone merits their rank.

2011 showcased so much talent and ministries that it was impossible to rank everyone in my top 5, but here are some honorable mentions. I look forward to whats ahead in 2012.

2011 was no doubt one of the most productive years in christian hip-hop. 2011 shined for many reasons,but two of the main reasons are: The rise in quality of production & The rise in quality lyrical content. We're no longer just saying "Jesus Jesus Jesus"over a hot beat; Christian hip-hop has finally reached a point of true ministry and I for one am thrilled!!

Here are a few Artists that were standouts in 2011!!!

1. Lecrae

From his album Overdose (a sequel to Rehab) being released early this year to his appearance on BET's cypher, to his features in the Iamsecond commercials; Lecrae is this year's top artist because of the impact He's made on the entire genre of christian hip hop.

2.PRo

PRo came out the gates on fire! His mix-tape PSA Vol 2. was crazy!Couple that with with first album with Reach Records: Dying to Live and the founding of his own label Reflection Music Group and PRo comes in at a strong #2.

3.Andy Mineo

Andy Mineo (Formerly C-lite) is by no means a newcomer, but this year people finally realized how dope of an artist He really is. His free album "Formerly Known" is was of the most well put together musical projects I've ever heard. Lyrics and production on point. His features on 116's Man Up Album,Flame's Captured,and PRo's PSA Vol. 2. are bananas and help land him at #3.

4.Pastor AD3

If you enjoy skillful anointed singing, then Pastor AD3's No Pain No Love is your cup of tea! Pastor AD3 vocal talents as well as his songwriting shined on this 2011 release.Quality vocal arrangements and musical production take the cake. AD3 proved this year that he was more than just a "Hook singer", but that he can hold his own as the main featured artist.

5.Canon

Canon was definitely a breath of fresh air to christian hip-hop this year.His rapid flow delivery coupled with his creativity on the mic made every track he was featured on go to the next level.From his work on Blow your High off Lecrae's Overdose to his own mix-tape Blind World,Canon has an energy about him that swallows an entire track.Its that energy that's landed him in the #5 spot.

It has been a long year and there were many other artists that didn't make this list, but still contributed quality projects to the genre. Here are a few honorable mentions:

He is now a born-again Christian and can be seen at Victory World Church in Atlanta, GA performing with the church band. In late 2010, Jordan announced that he was officially leaving his music career behind to become a Worship Minister at Victory World Church.

Quick Bio: Born in East Texas, Tedashii “TDot” Anderson was raised to be very family-oriented, respectful and appreciative, but embracing the latter was often difficult in light of the economic conditions his family faced. Quick Bio: Trevor was born in Bridgeport, CT to June Pope and the Late Marshall Pettway as an only child. Being raised by his mother only, Trevor still maintained a close relationship with his father until his untimely death in 1998. From the time Trevor was born up until his teenage years, he was brought up in the way that he should go. Although he never forgot the things he was taught as a child, he began to become very headstrong and rebellious around the age of twelve. Trevor not realizing at the time that, that same rebellion would put him through a time of suffering in his years to come.

In 2002, God called Trevor to start a ministry that uses rap as one of its ways to reach people young and old. He has ministered, witnessed, and testified on various street corners, churches, concerts, and at other different events. Trevor has recently released his first album called The Atonement, in which he hopes (Lord Willing) is not the last. Trevor has come a very long way from the same street life that easily entangles our youth today. God has moved mightily in his life, and helped him realize without Jesus, he is nothing. Trevor now sees Only What He Does For Christ Will Last. So in all he does and accomplishes he truly thanks God for it, for God deserves all the glory.

Quick Bio: Richard Smallwood was born in Atlanta Georgia in Atlanta, Georgia and an American Gospel music artist. He formed The Richard Smallwood Singers in 1977 in Washington, DC. As a young man at Washington, D.C.’s renowned Howard University—living a life immersed in both the great classical music of the last several centuries, and the campus radicalism of the late-‘60s that raised a loud—and proud—voice, that would not be silenced, demanding that studies of African and black American history, music and all art forms be included in the school’s curriculum. Forming the Smallwood Singers in 1977, Richard set about the arduous process of doing demo recordings and trying to get a hearing in the music industry. He got that hearing, and a major-label recording contract followed in 1982, leading to an almost-unparalleled string of what is now, with Journey! Live in New York, 15 consecutive Top-10 albums.

As Richard looks back, as well as forward, on one of the great stories of contemporary music, it’s clear that this “script” is very much a work-still-in-progress. “There are some tangible musical things I still want to do,” he says, “but to continue to grow—creatively and spiritually—has always been my heart. I hope and pray to increase this ministry in a way that will do supernatural work in the hearts and lives of the listeners. We’re here for a certain season and a certain reason, and it is a journey. And when you’ve done all you can do— then God takes you home. “I want to make music that will linger and have a lasting effect—one that will lift burdens and change lives…and heal—long after I’ve gone on.”
